ubuntu-dellFor a long time Dell only offered Microsoft operating system with the broad range of hardware that they sell. But due to the increasing demand every year Dell finally gave in to customers and started offering Linux distributions preinstalled on several models. Now, it seems like, Dell has witnessed the Linux nirvana and has started offer Ubuntu 7.10 nicknamed Gutsy Gibbon to US consumers. It is not just restricted to the Americas, Dell is scheduled to offer Ubuntu 7.10 to UK, France and Germany in a matter of days. US customers can now buy Inspiron 530 and 1420 notebooks with Ubuntu right away with plans to expand this to more models once Ubuntu team and Dell Linux team works out the kinks. Another win for the open-source Ubuntu community. Check out the interview with Mark Shuttleworth, founder of Ubuntu and John Hall, manager of Linux Engineering Team at Dell on Dell’s blog.
